Forte Duque de Caxias

After the French invasion in 1711, a small lookout was built in the Morro de Leme, where later, between 1776 and 1779, by order of the viceroy Marquês do Lavradio was built the Forte da Vigia. It had no artillery, and its mission was to warn the nearby fortifications (Forte de Copacabana, Fortaleza da Barra de Santa Cruz, Fortaleza de São João, etc.) of possible enemy ships arriving to the Bay of Guanabara, and for that reason it also adopted the name Forte da Espia (Spy Fort).

Praia de Leme

Leme beach shares its coastline with Copacabana. It is located at the beginning of the coastline, neighbouirng Urca towards the Guanabara Bay. Leme starts at the Pedra do Leme (Leme Rock) and reaches up to Av. Princesa Isabel (thats where Copacabana starts). Walking through the beach you won't see the limit.

At Leme Rock you will find a priviledged sightseeing spot of Leme beach and Copacabana beach, a pintoresc gastronomic center and a famous fishing spot.

If you like fishing you should visit at any time the “Caminho dos Pescadores” (Fisherman's Pathway), a platform constructed over and around Leme Rock where locals fish.

- Location: Next to Copacabana beach, after post marker 1 (Posto 1).
